All Star/Skills

UHSH annually holds an All-Star game to recognize the best of UHSH league players.  This event is usually held at the end of the season and highlights those players with skill, sportsmanship, and outstanding achievements throughout the season.  Please check the UHSH calendar for the date of this event.

At times an All-Star game may also held to highlight the UHSH girls program and their dedication to the sport of hockey.

UHSH hosts a skills competition annually.  The events include fastest skater, fastest goalie, speed shot, accurate shot, most goalie saves, and also includes separate events for the girls.  Check the UHSH calendar for the event date.  It is FREE to participate in this event.

Annual Awards Recognition

UHSH recognizes the UHSH player, coaches and volunteer award candidates and winners at the annual UHSH All-Star Game. The event is open to the public.  Perpetual trophies are on display. Over 40 years of award winners are engraved on UHSH trophies.  Academic All-Stars are honored with their names on an array of banners. Selected award winners are recognized an on-ice presentation.

Awards/Scholarships

The Annual Utah High School Hockey awards include:

  • Jeffrey Glass Robinson League MVP
  • Tim Hixson Memorial Scholarship Award for a Defenseman 
  • Tim Hixson Memorial Scholarship Award for a Goaltender or Forward
  • Art Teece Lady League Most Valuable Player
  • League Goaltender of the Year
  • League Defenseman of the Year
  • Gary Jones Memorial Coach of the Year Award
  • Dave Brown Volunteer of the Year

In addition to the awards listed above, UHSH recognizes players achieving academic excellence during the hockey season.  Academic excellence is defined by a 3.5 GPA or higher in the first or second school term of the  current hockey season.  Players are awarded the Academic All-Star award and recognized at the final UHSH All-Star game. Team trustees are to submit player names for recognition as Academic All-Stars by the submission deadline.

Disciplinary

A large portion of the UHSH board of trustees serve in varying capacities on the Disciplinary Committee to prevent conflicts with teams or players.  At any given time, approximately nine trustees may be active on the committee.

The Disciplinary Committee and Committee Chair are appointed by the Utah High School Hockey (UHSH) Board President and subject to approval by the UHSH board of trustees.

The Disciplinary Committee is responsible for all disciplinary hearings for UHSH including, but not limited to:

  • Regular season disciplinary issues
  • Playoff and championship tournament issues
  • Track Incident Reports
  • Track Injury Reports
  • Manage Complaint Reports
  • Revising as appropriate the policies and procedures relevant to the disciplinary process which is subject to the approval of the full UHSH board of trustees
  • Responsible for arranging the transfer of information to appropriate parties relative to appeals to the full UHSH board of trustees, UAHA and USA Hockey and answering questions as appropriate to those bodies

Eligibility

The Eligibility Committee and Committee Chair are appointed by the President of Utah High School Hockey.

 

The Eligibility Committee is responsible for, but not limited to the following:

  • Developing, revising and maintaining eligibility requirements for UHSH players subject to the approval of the BOD;
  • Developing, revising and maintaining eligibility requirements for which teams specific skill level players are intended to play subject to the approval of the BOD;
  • Monitoring eligibility of players and teams based upon geographical and school boundaries;
  • Recommending to the Disciplinary Committee instances that may require investigation and/or a hearing.

The Eligibility Committee is responsible for a monthly report out to the full BOD on the status of existing JV and Varsity eligibility disputes and recommendations to tighten up the P&P to prevent recurrence.

Finance

UHSH Finance Committee

The role of the finance committee is to provide financial oversight of UHSH funds and financial reporting.  The Finance Committee oversees the Treasurer’s duties, which include assisting in the development of the annual budget, reviewing financial reports, monitoring financial transactions, reviewing tax reporting and other financial oversight as needed.

Grow the Game

The goal of UHSH is to grow the sport of hockey in Utah, especially at the high school level.  If you have ideas of how to reach out to more players, inexperienced or experienced please let us know.  If you have old equipment you would like to donate to new players coming into the program please contact someone listed on this page.  Thank you for your support and assistance to grow UHSH and the sport of hockey in Utah.

Goalie Clinics

UHSH recognizes the importance of the development of goalies.  This season UHSH will host numerous goalie clinics throughout the season at several different locations in conjunction with local college to develop and work on the skills of the goalies participating in the UHSH program.  Please check the UHSH calendar for dates and times of these clinics.

SafeSport

The SafeSport/Registration committee is to ensure that all UHSH players and coaches are properly screened and rostered correctly.

Social Media

The Social Media Committee and Committee Chair are appointed by the President of Utah High School Hockey.

The intent of the Social Media Committee is leverage existing social media tools to develop excitement for UHSH.  The committee is responsible for:

  • Maintaining all Policies and Procedures relative to Social Media, photography and videography use (subject to BOD approval).
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for contests using existing social media.
  • Provide regular training on the use of social media for new and existing trustees.
  • Monitor existing UHSH web pages and UHSH social media sites and make or suggest improvements.
  • Develop and implement metrics to measure key performance indicators.

The Social Media Committee is responsible for a monthly report out to the full BOD that provides metrics on the status of existing UHSH web pages and social media sites to include, at a minimum:

  • Number of likes by team site/UHSH site.
  • Number of visits/unique visits.
  • Traffic patterns that might suggest opportunities for revenue generation.
